Parts Of A Landscape Lighting System
Our low voltage lighting systems are composed of components from quality manufacturers. We only sell professional brands and levels of products, no DIY grade products. There are many parts to a quality low voltage landscape lighting system and design. Bigger and brighter is usually not better. Landscape lighting is an artform that should be well thought out and designed to make a lasting impression and enhance your Houston, Texas area property.
1. Fixtures & Lamps: LED
We only recommend using LED lamps and fixtures. The fixtures and lamps are selected after determining which features of the landscape are to be utilized. There are fixtures that are integrated, meaning that the LED lamp is part of the fixture with no need to change. Drop-in fixtures, mean that you can change the lamps, but we only recommend using LED lamps.
2. Transformers
Landscape Lighting Systems are 12V power, therefore you will need a transformer to convert your 120Vpower to 12V. This makes installing a low voltage landscape lighting system easy and there is no need for a licensed electrician. This also makes it safer when working out on your Houston, TX area property. We offer several options for transformers to power your landscape lighting system. The mounting location of the transformer must be considered when designing your low voltage lighting system.
3. Controls
There are also many ways to control your transformer. We have mechanical timers, digital timers, WIFI Controls, photocells and GPS controls. You can also control on/off via a switched outlet. We do not recommend hard wiring the transformer. This requires an electrician and complicates trouble shooting. It always should be plugged into a GFCI protected outlet.
4. Wire & Connectors
It is important to use the appropriate size wiring for the system you have designed, for your Greater Houston, Texas area project. Length of runs and wattage (VA) are important in determining wire sizing. It is also very important to have a volt meter when doing any kind of low voltage lighting project. Connectors are also very important to the longevity of your system. You should always use appropriate, direct burial rated, connectors and strain reliefs.
5. Accessories
There are many accessories available for lighting. Tree mounts, stakes, cowls, a variety of lenses and risers, to name a few. We stock the most common accessories and can order others as needed.
